Garden & Floral Display Competition 2016
Kanturk Mallow Municipal District are running Town & Villages Garden and Floral Display Competition 2016 again this year. There are 3 categories for Millstreet with 2 sub categories in each. All competition has a prize fund of between €300 to €100. Nice prize for someone. So get you green fingers working their magic. Entries cost €5 and entry forms are available from the Carnegie Hall. Anti Litter Challenge Round 2
Well done again to all involved. Round 2 results for Anti Litter Challange are in and Millstreet is still top of the league. We are well on our way to achieveing 1st place in this competition this year. Remember all it takes is little effort on all our own doorsteps and this can go a long way. 
Tidy Town Application 2016
After many long evenings, drafts and redrafts the final application form for Supervalu National Tidy Town competition is ready for submission. A huge thanks to all involved in getting this application ready for the judges. It definitely is a group effort. Lets hope we can better the results from last year.
Calling All Volunteers
Every year the Millstreet Tidy Town Association plant all the beautiful flowers that you see around our picturesque town. For example, in The Square, outside the Credit Union and down Main Street. As you can appreciate it is a mammoth task to get all these flowers watered. So we are looking for a little bit of help from all you lovely people. If there is a planter or flower box outside your home or business premises, please, please can the poor wee flowers a drop of water. They are beginning to show signs of wilting already due to the fact that we have fab weather over the last week or so. There are water butts in various locations in town from which water can be accessed. Anybody who wants to get in contact please us here on the page.
Litter Challenge 2016 – First Round Results
Drum roll please…. First round results are in for the Litter Challenge 2016 are in. I am absolutely delighted and so proud to announce that Millstreet are first with a result of 992.3.
This is a massive achievement, if this momentum can be kept going there is no reason why Millstreet should not place first place for the entire Litter Challenge.
So keep up the good work everybody, the next judging period began Monday 23rd May to Wednesday 1st June with particular focus on Murphy’s Terrace. Remember just a little makes a huge difference, even something as little as tidying up outside your front garden makes a huge difference.
Dog Fouling Bins
Millstreet Tidy Town Association are delighted to announce, in conjunction with Cork County Council that the Dog Fouling bins have now been installed in 2 locations in our fair town. They are located in the Town Park and also adjacent to the picnic area at the top of Drishane Road. Both of these areas would have high volumes of dog walking traffic and will be put to great use. This endeavour goes along side our Green Dog Walkers Campaign that was started earlier in the year. Just another step Millstreet Tidy Town Association has taken to ensure that our town is kept clean and safe for all. Thanks to Dennis for providing photos.
Bollards In Town Park
Millstreet Tidy Town Association would like to compliment the Millstreet Town Park Committee in conjunction with Cork County Council, on the installation of the new safety bollards in the Town Park. They are a welcome addition and replace the old concrete bollards which had become very dilapidated looking. Thanks Dennis for the photos provided.
Weekly Litter Pick Up
Hey there it’s that time of year again. Our weekly Litter Pick Up has commenced. Thank you very much to all whom showed up last week. We would hope to have an xtra few people this week. Meeting Point in The Square, Millstreet @ 7pm. Bags, Gloves and Pickers provided. Hope to see you there.
Weekly Litter Pick Up
Evening All, it’s that time of year again. Anti Litter Competition is starting again and we aim to maximize on last years success and get first place this year. Millstreet did wonderful last year coming in second in our category. So as a result Pat and Patsy are starting the weekly Clean-Up again this year. All volunteers are welcome. Meeting point is The Square in Millstreet @ 7 pm on Thursday 5th May. As is the norm, bags, pickers and gloves will be provided. The first area to be judged alongside the entire town, will be Tanyard Wood from the 9th to 18th May. Hoping to see old and new faces.
Thank You & Well Done
Team Millstreet Clean-Up was a massive success this morning. This is all down to the many volunteers that started yesterday evening and were still going @ 4pm this afternoon. All approach roads into Millstreet have been cleaned. Some of the back roads have also been done. Tullig to Aubane was cleaned last week. Tanyard Wood residents were also out in force this morning also. It warms the heart to see such a fantastic community spirit alive and well in Millstreet. We were also joined today by Cllr. Mellissa Mullane and her daughter, whom were out picking litter with the rest of the crew from 10am this morning. Fair Play. Also Mayor of Cork County, John Paul O’Shea joined us and did his bit and then Derry Sheehan, our fearless leader gave him a tour of our fair town and all it has to offer. There was a massive amount of work done this morning, everybody should be very proud of themselves young and old that turned up to give a helping hand this morning. This is a great start to the year. This also places us in a good position heading into the Anti Litter Competition which will be starting soon. Also when all the morning crew were gone home and feet up, I caught a glimpse of the town footpaths being swept this evening by some of the local business’. Really proud of Millstreet Community Spirit that was shown today. Lets keep it going.
