Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Millstreet Tidy Town Association is always looking for a helping hand. This year alone we will spend over €10000. There is a lot of work that goes on that people don’t realise that it done on a voluntary basis and with a very limited fund. Essentially we don’t have one and rely totally on Grants received and very kind donations. This year is a particularly tough as we need to replace some rather expensive pieces of equipment, such as the Lawnmower which can cost up to €2000. Strimmers also. There is also the cost of seed for Herlihy’s, which in fairness to our volunteers is looking superb and will look even more so when we plant the wildflower seed which will cost in excess of €100. In short we are looking for Sponsors. Whether it is an individual or a local company or business, please we are asking for your help. We are very lucky with our current sponsors  and very appreciative of their support. The fact remains the entire town benefits from the work of Millstreet Tidy Town. Last year alone, Millstreet Town won 1st in the Anti Litter Competition, Bronze Medal in the Tidy Town Competition 2016, ran workshops with both of the Primary Schools and also the secondary school and Millstreet Tidy Town Association was the driving force behind all these.  Any individual, Local Company or Local Business that would like to discuss some form of sponsorship please do not hesitate to contact here on the website. Via email millstreettidytown@gmail.com, Via Facebook and you can speak to myself and I can give you details. All donations are gratefully accepted. Here’s to an even more successful 2017.

Cork County Council Tidy Town Evening

On the 1st of March, some of the committee members of Millstreet Tidy Town Association attended an evening organised by Cork County Council about the Tidy Town Competition. It was a very worthwhile excursion as at this talk were 3 former judges of the Tidy Town competition so we were able to ask some very poignant questions and hopefully this knowledge can be successfully applied to this years application and we can get the Gold for 2017. The talk was given by 3 tidy Towns judges – Billy Houlihan, Billy Flynn and Frank Hanley on built environment, biodiversity and advice on how to complete the application Thanks to those who attended the evening. Lets get started for 2017 now guys. Also a huge thanks to Cork County Council for organising this event in the Charleville Park Hotel.

Planting in Town

untitled (384 x 512)

As you may have noticed the Millstreet Tidy Town Association Volunteers have been quite busy over the last number of weeks. Almost all of the planters and tubs have been set with beautiful flowers over the last number of weeks. Please see pictures in the 2016 gallery for some pictures of the very hard work achieved. Just a reminder to everybody that is living/working near one of the tubs or planters, please, please can you water them. They will need to be watered 3 times a week even if it rains. The flowers for the poles will be out up very soon.

Calling All Volunteers

1284869 (366 x 470)Every year the Millstreet Tidy Town Association plant all the beautiful flowers that you see around our picturesque town. For example, in The Square, outside the Credit Union and down Main Street. As you can appreciate it is a mammoth task to get all these flowers watered. So we are looking for a little bit of help from all you lovely people. If there is a planter or flower box outside your home or business premises, please, please can the poor wee flowers a drop of water. They are beginning to show signs of wilting already due to the fact that we have fab weather over the last week or so. There are water butts in various locations in town from which water can be accessed.  Anybody who wants to get in contact please us here on the page.

Litter Challenge 2016 – First Round Results

untitled (299 x 531)Drum roll please…. First round results are in for the Litter Challenge 2016 are in. I am absolutely delighted and so proud to announce that Millstreet are first with a result of 992.3.

This is  a massive achievement, if this momentum can be kept going there is no reason why Millstreet should not place first place for the entire Litter Challenge.

So keep up the good work everybody, the next judging period began  Monday 23rd May to Wednesday 1st June with particular focus on Murphy’s Terrace. Remember just a little makes a huge difference, even something as little as tidying up outside your front garden makes a huge difference.
