Get By With A Little Help From My Friends
Millstreet Tidy Town Association is always looking for a helping hand. This year alone we will spend over €10000. There is a lot of work that goes on that people don’t realise that it done on a voluntary basis and with a very limited fund. Essentially we don’t have one and rely totally on Grants received and very kind donations. This year is a particularly tough as we need to replace some rather expensive pieces of equipment, such as the Lawnmower which can cost up to €2000. Strimmers also. There is also the cost of seed for Herlihy’s, which in fairness to our volunteers is looking superb and will look even more so when we plant the wildflower seed which will cost in excess of €100. In short we are looking for Sponsors. Whether it is an individual or a local company or business, please we are asking for your help. We are very lucky with our current sponsors and very appreciative of their support. The fact remains the entire town benefits from the work of Millstreet Tidy Town. Last year alone, Millstreet Town won 1st in the Anti Litter Competition, Bronze Medal in the Tidy Town Competition 2016, ran workshops with both of the Primary Schools and also the secondary school and Millstreet Tidy Town Association was the driving force behind all these. Any individual, Local Company or Local Business that would like to discuss some form of sponsorship please do not hesitate to contact here on the website. Via email millstreettidytown@gmail.com, Via Facebook and you can speak to myself and I can give you details. All donations are gratefully accepted. Here’s to an even more successful 2017.

Planting in Town
As you may have noticed the Millstreet Tidy Town Association Volunteers have been quite busy over the last number of weeks. Almost all of the planters and tubs have been set with beautiful flowers over the last number of weeks. Please see pictures in the 2016 gallery for some pictures of the very hard work achieved. Just a reminder to everybody that is living/working near one of the tubs or planters, please, please can you water them. They will need to be watered 3 times a week even if it rains. The flowers for the poles will be out up very soon.
Tidy Town Application 2016
After many long evenings, drafts and redrafts the final application form for Supervalu National Tidy Town competition is ready for submission. A huge thanks to all involved in getting this application ready for the judges. It definitely is a group effort. Lets hope we can better the results from last year.
Welcome to 2016
Happy New Year to Everybody. Apologies for the lack of communication for last number of weeks. This is now to end. Back to regular updates and posts. I can here all the shouts of joy from here. So what better way to start a New Year than to reflect on the achievements of the previous year. There is so much to choose from. Well we had a very successful Anti Litter Challenge campaign this last year. We have an eye on first place for 2016. Then there is also the various projects that Tony Keneally, Wildlife Biologist has been heavily involved in with both the National and Secondary Schools. Also brilliant results in the National Tidy Town for this past year, only narrowly missing out on a Bronze Medal. Millstreet won a Pride of Place award in October. New Water Butts were placed throughout the Town, as were hanging baskets and Nest boxes. Let’s not forget about the new Footpaths. These are only a few of the amazing accomplishments achieved by volunteers, FÁS workers, Council Workers and many more. All kindly giving up their time and energy to make our town a wonderful place to live. So what are the hopes for 2016. Well aim high is what I think. Anyone fancy volunteering email, tweet, Facebook, there no shortage of ways to communicate your interest to us. There is always plenty of work to be done. So as we begin to see a stretch starting to creep back into the evening and the rain has finally stopped, I found a nice little New Year’s quote that kind of sums up the feeling really.
“Be More Awesome Than Last Year”
Amazing Result in Anti Litter Challenge
Hot off the presses lads and lassies, Millstreet has just received 2nd place in our Category for Anti Litter Challenge 2015. Dunmanway placed 1st and Blarney placed 3rd, which is not bad company to be in at all. This is an amazing result. All the hard work and effort that the people of this town have put into this competition this year has really paid off. The place of 2nd place comes with a prize fund of €1200 which will go a long way to help Millstreet Tidy Town with their annual spend which can run up to €10000. So be very proud of yourselves people, even the smallest effort is so appreciated. Keep up the good work. We would also like to thank Cork County Council, sponsors of the annual competition. First place next year is on the horizon. The excitement is building, bring on the Tidy Town results and lest we forget the Best Commercial and Best Residential Competition the Millstreet Tidy Town are running this year.
Flower Sponsored by O’Keeffes Supervalu Millstreet
This years flowers for planters and many other areas in the town have been once again kindly sponsored by O’Keeffe’s Supervalu Millstreet. There were hundreds of flowers dropped to the shop during the week and almost half of them have since been planted. Planting of these flowers will continue over the coming days. Thanks again to our sponsor. See all pictures in 2015 gallery
