anti litter competition

Thank You & Well Done

Tmc1 (600 x 337)Team Millstreet Clean-Up was  a massive success this morning. This is all down to the many volunteers that started yesterday evening and were still going @ 4pm this afternoon. All approach roads into Millstreet have been cleaned. Some of the back roads have also been done. Tullig to Aubane was cleaned last week. Tanyard Wood residents were also out in force this morning also. It warms the heart to see such a fantastic community spirit alive and well in Millstreet. We were also joined today by Cllr. Mellissa Mullane and her daughter, whom were out picking litter with the rest of the crew from 10am this morning. Fair Play. Also Mayor of Cork County, John Paul O’Shea joined us and did his bit and then Derry Sheehan, our fearless leader gave him a tour of our fair town and all it has to offer. There was a massive amount of work done this morning, everybody should be very proud of themselves young and old that turned up to give a helping hand this morning. This is a great start to the year. This also places us in a good position heading into the Anti Litter Competition which will be starting soon. Also when all the morning crew were gone home and feet up, I caught a glimpse of the town footpaths being swept this evening by some of the local business’. Really proud of Millstreet Community Spirit that was shown today. Lets keep it going.

SM-MTT-logo[1] (312 x 312)Happy New Year to Everybody. Apologies for the lack of communication for last number of weeks. This is now to end. Back to regular updates and posts. I can here all the shouts of joy from here. So what better way to start a New Year than to reflect on the achievements of the previous year. There is so much to choose from. Well we had a very successful Anti Litter Challenge campaign this last year. We have an eye on first place for 2016. Then there is also the various projects that Tony Keneally, Wildlife Biologist has been heavily involved in with both the National and Secondary Schools. Also brilliant results in the National Tidy Town for this past year, only narrowly missing out on a Bronze Medal. Millstreet won a Pride of Place award in October. New Water Butts were placed throughout the Town, as were hanging baskets and Nest boxes. Let’s not forget about the new Footpaths. These are only a few of the amazing accomplishments achieved by volunteers, FÁS workers, Council Workers and many more. All kindly giving up their time and energy to make our town a wonderful place to live. So what are the hopes for 2016. Well aim high is what I think. Anyone fancy volunteering email, tweet, Facebook, there no shortage of ways to communicate your interest to us. There is always plenty of work to be done. So as we begin to see a stretch starting to creep back into the evening and the rain has finally stopped, I found a nice little New Year’s quote that kind of sums up the feeling really.

“Be More Awesome Than Last Year”

Tidy Town Results

Congratulations-53 (418 x 411)Millstreet Tidy Town are very proud to announce that this afternoon in The Helix in Dublin, it was announced that Millstreet received 302 points in the annual Tidy Town competition for 2015. This is an increase of 5 points on last years results. This is a huge achievement. So may thanks to all in all involved, big and small efforts made a lot of difference. Whilst we bask in the glow of this brilliant result, we must also bear in mind that we have plenty more work to do to prepare for next year. Only 20 points behind the overall winner Listowel, in our category. These points are precious and hard to achieve. Also we were only 1 point off receiving a bronze medal. So just think of  what one small thing that you may have done that could have contributed to gaining that extra point. We are capable of most definitely achieving a Silver medal next year.  So get the thinking caps on.  New volunteers are always welcome, just send us an email, pm on Facebook or tweet if you like. Remember Tidy Town is all year, not just for the Summer. Congratulations to all involved. 2015 Adjudicator Results

Anti Litter Competition Results

Anti Litter challenge results 2015 Septemberjpg_Page1 (600 x 424)Howdy folks, as requested here are the full results of  the Anti Litter Competition 2015. Not a bad result. As you can see from results our strongest week was our last week @ 996.60 points. The first rounds, there was a huge amount points lost and a big part of that was due to cigarette butts on the street. There are plenty of bins in town and also outside almost all of the pubs and fast food restaurants in town have outdoor ashtrays. So there really is no excuse for cigarette butts being thrown around the street. Please just take a minute when you put it out and then just bin it. Again congratulations to all involved, massive result.

Amazing Result in Anti Litter Challenge

Anti Litter Comp CertificateHot off the presses lads and lassies, Millstreet has just received 2nd place in our Category for Anti Litter Challenge 2015. Dunmanway placed 1st and Blarney placed 3rd, which is not bad company to be in at all.  This is an amazing result. All the hard work and effort that the people of this town have put into this competition this year has really  paid off. The place of 2nd place comes with a prize fund of €1200 which will go a long way to help Millstreet Tidy Town with their annual spend which can run up to €10000. So be very proud of yourselves people, even the smallest effort is so appreciated. Keep up the good work. We would also like to thank Cork County Council, sponsors of the annual competition. First place next year is on the horizon. The excitement is building, bring on the Tidy Town results and lest we forget the Best Commercial and Best Residential Competition the Millstreet Tidy Town are running this year.

Anti Litter Challenge – Result

Cork County Council Image (343 x 147)On 3rd September, Thursday evening next, a representative group for Millstreet Tidy Town Association will be attending the results evening in Cork County Hall. We will find where we have placed in Anti Litter Challenge for 2015. Fingers crossed. If we win this the money which is in the prize fund will go along way to help Millstreet Tidy Town Association with the annual costs that are incurred each year. Here’s hoping for a good result.

Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel, 7pm in The Square, Millstreet. Bags, Pickers and Gloves provided. Millstreet Tidy Town Association would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the stalwarts. To all those who come out on a Thursday evening week in week out. To all those who off their own backs are picking litter up on a DAILY basis. To all the lads in FÁS. To all those who have cleaned up even just outside their own houses and business premises. These people are an absolute credit to Millstreet Town and Millstreet Tidy Town are hugely grateful for the time and effort that these people go to keep Millstreet the beautiful town that it is. Anti Litter Competition – Period 2 results.

Millstreet Judging Result Sheet - Period 2jpg_Page1 (600 x 425)League Table period 2 21.5.15jpg_Page1The Anti Litter Competition Period Results are in. We are in 4th position again. Not bad but we are definitely in with a chance of winning. The next judging period is start Monday again. 25th May to 3rd June. The entire town will be judged with particular focus on Clara Road for this judging period. With a massive last surge we can most definitely aim to win this competition, if everybody could do their  a small part. Even something as little as keeping the area outside your own house or business premises and just give a quick look and a small tidy up every morning would go a long way in improving our chances. As you can see any points that are gained now are of huge importance. Great result again for this period. Keep up the good work everybody.
