Cork Couny Council

Smart Store Cooking

Millstreet Tidy  Town Association would like to invite you to the launch of Smart Store Cooking on Thursday 21st of June  from 3 to 5pm @ O’Keeffe Supervalu Millstreet.

This project is in co-operation with Cork County Council and the Southern Regional Waste Office. Smart Store Cooking is an economic and time efficient plan for simple preparation of weekly meals. Easy recipes with interchangeable core ingredients, which helps reduce food waste. Simple but effective, saves you money at the shop, which leads to less waste, this lowers your bin charges and also combats illegal dumping. http://www.smartstorecooking.com/

On Thursday we would love if you could come join us. We have an educational fun filled afternoon planned. Joining us will be our friends from The Animal Roadshow to keep the smallies entertained, Dj to keep the rest of us entertained. Also there will be a sample of some of the recipes from Smart Store Cooking. Country Clean are going to come along and educate us on how to recycle correctly and show us the do’s and dont’s of the new compost bins. They are also sponsoring the prize for the raffle. The colouring competition winners will be announced on the afternoon also. And I have it on good authority the weather will be fab. So come along and join us for a fun filled afternoon. See you then.

Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Millstreet Tidy Town Association is always looking for a helping hand. This year alone we will spend over €10000. There is a lot of work that goes on that people don’t realise that it done on a voluntary basis and with a very limited fund. Essentially we don’t have one and rely totally on Grants received and very kind donations. This year is a particularly tough as we need to replace some rather expensive pieces of equipment, such as the Lawnmower which can cost up to €2000. Strimmers also. There is also the cost of seed for Herlihy’s, which in fairness to our volunteers is looking superb and will look even more so when we plant the wildflower seed which will cost in excess of €100. In short we are looking for Sponsors. Whether it is an individual or a local company or business, please we are asking for your help. We are very lucky with our current sponsors  and very appreciative of their support. The fact remains the entire town benefits from the work of Millstreet Tidy Town. Last year alone, Millstreet Town won 1st in the Anti Litter Competition, Bronze Medal in the Tidy Town Competition 2016, ran workshops with both of the Primary Schools and also the secondary school and Millstreet Tidy Town Association was the driving force behind all these.  Any individual, Local Company or Local Business that would like to discuss some form of sponsorship please do not hesitate to contact here on the website. Via email millstreettidytown@gmail.com, Via Facebook and you can speak to myself and I can give you details. All donations are gratefully accepted. Here’s to an even more successful 2017.

Cork County Council Tidy Town Evening

On the 1st of March, some of the committee members of Millstreet Tidy Town Association attended an evening organised by Cork County Council about the Tidy Town Competition. It was a very worthwhile excursion as at this talk were 3 former judges of the Tidy Town competition so we were able to ask some very poignant questions and hopefully this knowledge can be successfully applied to this years application and we can get the Gold for 2017. The talk was given by 3 tidy Towns judges – Billy Houlihan, Billy Flynn and Frank Hanley on built environment, biodiversity and advice on how to complete the application Thanks to those who attended the evening. Lets get started for 2017 now guys. Also a huge thanks to Cork County Council for organising this event in the Charleville Park Hotel.

Bronze Medal Returns

Great news came from The Helix this afternoon. Not only did Millstreet earn an extra 6 points this year in the National Tidy Town Competition but we are to see the return of a Bronze Medal. This is an amazing result for the town. The report has been loaded up on the website and full comments and pand-the-winner-is-1-600-x-600oints can be seen from this page. http://millstreettidytown.ie/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2016-County-Cork_North-Millstreet-480.pdf.  Millstreet Tidy Town Association would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved. Without a strong community spirit and a stalwart of volunteers this result would not be possible. Tidy Town is just one simple way that we can showcase how wonderful a place Millstreet is. We can hold our heads high safe in the knowledge that all the hard work that people are putting into to keeping this town a beautiful place to live is paying off. So hats off and big congratulations to all. Pat and Noreen were in attendance representing the Millstreet Tidy Town Association this afternoon and I will post pictures of this fantastic afternoons result when I receive them.
